This course provides an understanding of how to act following discovery of infection or disease and a familiarity with Food Hygiene, the Mandatory Training version of this course does not include food hygiene.

Health & Safety / Enforcing Authority: Understand the types of authority organisations and the extent of their powers during enforcement of their legislation compliance requirements along with an explanation of the enforcement notices such as Improvement and Prohibition.
Moving & Handling: Learn about Moving and Handling, the manual handling of people who are unable to move themselves.
First Response: Learn about First Responders and the expectations of the first person at an accident, whilst they await a trained First Aid or Medical Professional and understand the recovery position.
Basic Life Support (Adult-Paediatric) inc. AED: Learn about Basic Life Support awareness for adults, children and infants with information about the different approaches for health professionals and non-health professionals alike including a familiarisation with AED (Automated External Defibrillator).
SBAR: Understand the SBAR (Situation Background Assessment Recommendation) structured communication method for critical information and effective escalation for immediate attention.
Equality Diversity & Human Rights: Understand why and how we can be fair to all people, regardless of background, race, disability, age, gender identity, sexual orientation, religion or belief.
Safeguarding Adults (POVA) / Mental Capacity: Safeguarding adults (formerly known as POVA, Protection of Vulnerable Adults) explains how to identify a vulnerable adult, the common types of abuse including Honour Based Violence, Modern Slavery, FGM (Female Genital Mutilation) along with the requirements for Disclosure and Barring services (DBS), Regulated activity (including illustrative examples) and an understanding of the Mental Capacity Act.
Safeguarding Children Level 1,2,3: Learn Safeguarding Children Level 3 as defined in the Intercollegiate Document. We explore sources of stress, social exclusion and the effects of poverty, types of abuse, as well as the parental impacts on families, including domestic violence, parental problem drug use and mental illness in a Parent or Carer as well as the roles of the Designated Professional, Named Professional and the relevant legislation.
Safeguarding Children Forensic Practice: Learn about the forensic procedures and practices for health professionals involved in circumstances such as an investigation into allegations of sexual abuse of a child. Understand the key elements of the examination and who should conduct such examinations, including Procter's model of clinical supervision.
Preventing Radicalisation: Understand the warning signs of how vulnerable people may be exploited, radicalised, and potentially drawn into terrorism. Safeguarding personnel and management teams within an organisation should understand how the Prevent Duty focuses on the protection of vulnerable people rather than the reporting of potential terrorists.
Complaints: Understand the importance of dealing with and reporting complaints in a professional manner within the healthcare industry.
Criminal Convictions: Learn about criminal convictions of healthcare workers and their requirement for a Criminal Record Disclosure (DBS - formally CRB).
Caldicott Protocols / Information Governance: Understand the importance of the 7 Caldicott principles including the control and handling of information, patient confidentiality and the differences between Duty to Share and Duty to Protect.
Fitness to Practice: Understand why occupational health questionnaires must be completed on an annual basis in the healthcare industry to evidence a continuation of fitness to practice.
Infection Control (inc. MRSA): Understand infection control, MRSA and other common infections and how they might be controlled in a healthcare environment.
Exposure Prone Procedures: Understand the procedures for health professionals who are involved in invasive procedures (e.g. inside body cavities) where an injury may result in exposing the worker to the patient's open tissues.
Spillages of Body Fluids: Learn how to correctly handle spillages of body fluids such as; blood, faeces, vomit, urine, pus etc.
Epilepsy: Understand epilepsy and how to handle it on a day-to-day basis by raising awareness of seizures and how to recognise them.
Harassment & Bullying: Understand the identification, reporting and effective management of harassment and bullying instances at work.
Violence & Aggression: Understand the fundamentals of violence and aggression within a healthcare environment and which actions can be taken to improve the situation.
Conflict Resolution: Learn about the 5 step guide on how to approach conflict within the care industry including care homes. Gain an understanding of anger and the strategic tools for preventing violence such as de-escalation techniques.
Drugs, Alcohol & Substance Misuse: Understand why colleagues under the influence of alcohol or drugs are not permitted to undertake work on the employers' behalf and learn about support options.
Sharps: Understand sharps injuries and the main risks posed within the healthcare industry and what action to take when receiving a sharps injury.
First Aid Awareness: Understand the importance of informing colleagues of who their First Aider is and that medication such as pain relief is not to be administered during first aid. This module does not replace First Aid training.
Lone Working & Home Visits: Understand the safe systems of work for colleagues who work by themselves or without close or direct supervision and the precautions to be taken where personal safety is a concern within the workplace.
Understanding Risk Assessments: Learn the details of the Risk Assessment process while following the HSE's 5 Steps to Risk Assessment. Understand the key elements such as the PEME approach along with initial and residual risk factors using our realistic scenarios.
Slips Trips Falls: Understand the importance of reporting potential causes of slips, trips and falls.
Accidents & Incidents (RIDDOR): Understanding accidents, incidents, near miss events and the legal reporting requirements of RIDDOR (Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations).
Display Screen Equipment: Understand computer workstation safety (DSE), appropriate positioning of workstations, how to correct or adapt work chairs to enhance an ergonomic posture, breaks and changes of activity.
Fire & Emergency: Understand the key principles of fire safety and how workplace fires can cause significant harm before reaching you. Learn about good housekeeping practices and other emergencies such as bomb threat and how they should be addressed in an emergency plan.
COSHH: Understand the types of hazardous substances that may be found in the workplace, and their potential impacts upon health. Also provides an understanding about the types of hazard warning symbols and their meaning.
Food Handling: Learn about food hygiene principles and an explanation of requirements when preparing and handling food.
