Our Health & Safety for Leisure Centres course is perfect for health, safety and risk management requirements of Sports & Leisure Centre operational staff and others, such as a; Duty Manager, Recreation Assistant, Receptionist/Administrator and Life Guards etc. who are responsible for not only their own safety and that of their colleagues, but also people other than those at work (e.g. volunteer staff like coaches, club members, visiting teams and spectators).

This course will benefit anyone who works within a Sports or Leisure Centre environment, enabling them to recognise fundamental risk factors such as chemicals or other substances that may cause harm within the sports and leisure environment, and other elements such as manual handling risk factors including an understanding of the anatomy of the spine and causes of back injuries, and practical advice on safe lifting techniques. This course focuses specifically on the common hazards to be found in the sports and leisure centre industry including Workstation Safety (DSE), Manual Handling and Fire Safety, but also the very real issues of Conflict Resolution, Lone Working, Working at Height, Accidents, Slips, Trips and Falls and Work-life Balance and Stress, to name but a few.

Display Screen Equipment: Understand computer workstation safety (aka DSE), the appropriate positioning of workstations and how to correct or adapt work chairs to improve an "ergonomic posture".
COSHH: Understand the types of hazardous substances that may be found in the workplace, and their potential impacts upon health. Also provides an understanding about the types of hazard warning symbols and their meaning.
Inspections of the Workplace: Understand the importance of regular workplace inspections to ensure that hazards are identified in order to pro-actively reduce risk.
Manual Handling: Learn about the manual handling and movement of inanimate objects in the working environment and the techniques to use such as L.I.T.E.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Learn about PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) including safety helmets (i.e. hard hats), hearing protection, eye protection, hand protection, protective footwear, masks, respirators, clothing and overalls.
Working at Height: Understand what working at height within the work environment actually means with examples to demonstrate suitable types of equipment and good practice.
Accidents & Incidents (RIDDOR): Understanding accidents, incidents, near miss events and the legal reporting requirements of RIDDOR (Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations).
Asbestos Awareness: Familiarisation with key principles of the 3 types of asbestos, Chrysotile (White), Crocidolite (Blue), Amosite (Brown) and the harm it can do, why buildings have asbestos and how is it managed.
Fire & Emergency: Understand the key principles of fire safety and how workplace fires can cause significant harm before reaching you. Learn about good housekeeping practices and other emergencies such as bomb threat and how they should be addressed in an emergency plan.
Harassment & Bullying: Understand the identification, reporting and effective management of harassment and bullying instances at work.
Conflict Resolution: Learn about the 5 step guide on how to approach conflict within the industry. Gain an understanding of anger and the strategic tools for preventing violence such as de-escalation techniques.
Legionnaires Disease: Understand legionnaires disease and the potential harmful impacts associated with the management of water systems in workplaces. Learn the sources of exposure for every-day workers, the effects on health, and how to control them.
Occupational Health: Understand the benefits of actively communicating occupational health issues to line managers.
Risk Assessment Introduction: Understand the basics of the The 5 Steps to Risk Assessment concept to follow the guidance of Risk Assessors.
Lone Working: Understand who constitutes a lone workers and which safe systems of work can be complimented.
