LOcHER Project is a New Approach developed by students at Colleges in partnership with leading health and safety industry specialists and supporters. The purpose was to find New Approaches for College Apprentices to learn about occupational health risks in a more engaging way, which embeds an understanding of the key health risks, and ways of controlling them, into the students' long-term memory. How did we do it? By handing over to the students and giving them completely free reign over how they learned and recorded their discoveries. Then they designed posters and created films to demonstrate what they had learned for other students at Colleges around the world.

Learning is enhanced and retained for longer if it's fun and with a variety of different learning experiences, such as listening, reading, audio visual, demonstrations, involvement, discussion groups and practice by doing. Connections and discoveries made during "aha" moments, following exploration and laughter, are likely to stay with you forever, thanks to the release of endorphins, epinephrine (adrenaline) and dopamine which create a positive emotional event. Provided by IBIS Training. Students at South Essex College lead the way with this ground breaking project which turns the whole concept of delivering health and safety learning on its head! Supported by the band Official Stewart Mac (who supported Bon Jovi on tour) provided their music for the LOcHER Project films. Watch how the students create their own short documentary-style films using their mobile phones during their exploration of the occupational health risks associated with paint spraying during their motor vehicle repair course.
